Glaciers, Good Food, and Great Company: An Intimate Alaska Singles Cruise

There is a distinct magic to leading a boutique group on a Singles Cruise. When six Singles Travel International members stepped aboard the Oceania Riviera in Seattle for our voyage north, they arrived as individuals with packed suitcases, bucket-list aspirations, and that familiar, quiet anticipation that comes with traveling solo. Within twenty-four hours, the dynamic found its groove: our small circle quickly became an easy, comfortable retreat where everyone could unwind, share highlights, and settle into the journey at their own pace.

Traveling solo with a group isn’t about giving up independence—it’s about having a built-in circle of kindred spirits right when you want them. On an intimate voyage like this, nobody gets lost in the crowd.
Pacific Sea Days & Klondike Lore
Sailing out of Puget Sound through the Strait of Juan de Fuca and up the rugged Pacific coast west of Vancouver Island gave us uninterrupted ocean horizons and open water. With just six guests, our group gatherings felt more like private reunions than structured tour meetings. Between our casual icebreaker sessions and a lively Klondike Gold Rush–themed happy hour, we traded travel tales and mapped out our days over cocktails.

Because Oceania is known for its culinary focus, our evenings revolved around exceptional meals. Whether sharing a family-style celebration at Red Ginger or dividing up for an evening of fresh lobster versus rich pasta, dinner was always the anchor of the day—an unhurried debrief of everything we had seen, smelled, and explored since morning.
Big Wild Moments on Shore
Once we navigated north into Southeast Alaska’s protected islands and waterways, the wild scenery took over:
- Juneau: We tracked breaching humpbacks out on the water, took in the raw chill off Mendenhall, and met working sled dogs and their puppies at an energetic musher camp.

- Ketchikan: The temperate rainforest mist greeted us as we strolled past historic boardwalks, admired towering Tlingit and Haida totem poles, and watched local timber sports in action.

- Wrangell & Beyond: Off-the-beaten-path waterways offered quiet, rugged shorelines where bald eagles watched from spruce tops and blue-tinted ice drifted past our rails.

- Victoria, BC: Rounding back south toward Vancouver Island’s southern tip, our evening call in Victoria brought a classic change of pace, winding down with scenic harbor lights and a relaxed stroll before our final transit back to Seattle.

The Power of Small-Group Solo Travel
By the time we headed south back toward Seattle, the original “six solo guests” label was long forgotten. When a solo traveler joins an intimate itinerary, the Singles Travel International Concierge takes care of logistics: no dining alone, no awkward excursion pairing, and someone always on hand to take the photo where you’re actually in the frame.

To everyone who shared the deck rails, toasted at dinner, and scanned the horizon for whale spouts on this sailing: thank you for making this voyage unforgettable. Here’s to the next open sea and the next shared table!
