Santiago: The mild autumn climate in Santiago, Chile makes for one of the best times to visit with highs in the low 80s°F by day and high 70s°F at night.

Atacama Desert: With its stark mountains, sprawling salt flats, clear high-altitude lakes, and centuries-old cultures, the Atacama desert is one of Chile’s top tourist destinations, especially during the summer months of December through March when the heat and long days make it easy to explore and get to know the area through hiking.

Paracas: The weather is awesome in March in Paracas. The average high during this season is between 84.9°F (29.4°C) and 77°F (25°C), which makes the best time to travel there and enjoy the sunny and warm weather.

Lima: The best time to visit Lima is from December to April. Since Lima is in the Southern Hemisphere, these months offer warm, summer weather (sometimes upward of 80 degrees).

A passport is required for travel to South America. Be sure to confirm that your passport is current and will be valid at least six months after your return date. If you do not have one or need a new one, contact the State Department Passport Office in your area immediately or visit their website.

For U.S. citizens traveling to Chile and Peru, below find the passport and visa requirements.
Non US Citizens are responsible for verifying their own required documentation for this tour.

Chile

Passport Requirements
– Validity: Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Chile.
– Blank Pages: At least one blank page is required for the immigration entry stamp.

Visa Requirements
– Tourist Visa: Not required for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.
– Tourist Card: Upon arrival, you will receive a Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo), which is valid for up to 90 days.
– Important Note: You must return the Tourist Card upon departure. If lost, you need to replace it before leaving, or you may face fines.

Peru

Passport Requirements
– Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least **six months** beyond your arrival date in Peru.
– Blank Pages: At least one blank page is required for entry stamps.

Visa Requirements
– Tourist Visa: U.S. citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to **183 days** for tourism purposes.

Additional Information
– Travelers may be asked to show proof of onward travel (such as a return ticket) upon entry.

These requirements ensure a smooth entry into both countries, but travelers should always verify current regulations prior to their trip, as policies can change.

We recommend that you also make copies of your passport, driver’s license, photo identification card and/or birth certificate in case of loss, and carry them with you on your trip separate from your passport.

There is no baggage limit onboard ship.

Currently, most international airlines will allow you to check 1 bag weighing up to 50 pounds for no fee. In addition you may carry-on one bag plus a personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Please check with your air carrier for up-to-the-minute regulations and fees for checked baggage once you receive our air schedule from us approximately 75 days prior to our cruise departure.

Evenings aboard the ship are sometimes cool due to the air conditioning, so a coverup is essential if you tend to get cold easily.

Packing Tips: Take only what you need; don’t over pack. Save room for souvenirs and purchases. Pack flat and full to avoid wrinkling. Bring wardrobe basics; mix and match around one or two colors. Don’t pack anything valuable, fragile or perishable. Label your luggage with an outside tag, and place an identification card inside each suitcase.

Essential Items: We highly recommend that you bring the following items.

– A happy-go-lucky attitude
– A good, comfortable pair of broken-in walking shoes.
– A pair of shoes for restaurants (loafers, sandals, etc).
– Slacks, shorts and tops and keep dressing in layers in mind
– Collapsible umbrella (which can double as a sunshade parasol) and/or lightweight raingear.
– Ladies will want to bring a nicer warm wrap, and gentlemen a nicer jacket, for evening wear.
– Sunglasses, sun block, sun hat or visor.
– Toiletries: all your daily essentials.
– Prescription medications: sufficient supply for the entire trip plus legible written prescription in case of loss. Keep medications in their original, labeled container. Always pack your medications in your carry-on bag!

Cruising aboard SH Vega Expedition cruises are primarily concerned with what happens outside the ship, so dress codes are very relaxed. There are no formalities at mealtimes.

At breakfast and lunch, wear the clothes you are going to wear for your tour. Once you have changed out of your touring attire in the evening, you will want to put on something casual and comfortable.

During the daytime around the ship, you will want casual slacks, jeans or smart sportswear.
Evening is casual too – perhaps pack a couple of casual shirts and or skirts/dresses. Keep footwear to a minimum. On board a pair of lightweight sneakers or similar will suffice, while slippers should be worn in your cabin only.

Swimwear, T-shirts and shorts are not allowed in restaurants after 5:30 pm.

What Our Members Are Saying

I just came back from a fantastic Mediterranean vacation aboard the Norwegian Epic. STI was fantastic from the office staff to our cruise hostesses June and Georgia. I look forward to traveling with STI again in the future!

The Epic Med cruise was fantastic. It was my first trip to Europe and was a nice taste of Spain, Italy and France. The day I saw there was a cruise without a single supplement was when I signed up. Nice group and made lots of new friends. Thanks STI!
