Lakes, Peaks and Railways of Switzerland Singles Tour

Switzerland, a country of stunning landscapes, alpine lakes, snow-capped summits, charming villages, and rich culture, sets the stage for an unforgettable singles-only adventure where connection comes naturally. As we travel together by scenic rail, gondolas, cable cars, and cogwheel trains, we’ll share awe-filled moments with like-minded travelers our age, swapping stories over mountain vistas and lakeside sunsets while forming friendships that often last long after the journey ends.

Together, we’ll stand atop Jungfraujoch, “Europe’s highest train station,” soaking in sweeping glacier views, ride gondolas and the world’s steepest cogwheel train on Mount Pilatus before cruising back to Lucerne by boat, and ascend Mount Titlis on a revolving cable car that reveals new alpine panoramas at every turn. Side by side, these experiences become more than sightseeing; they become shared memories—laughing over photo ops in the snow, clinking glasses after epic days in the Alps, and enjoying the easy camaraderie of a group that’s there for the same thing we are: spectacular scenery, meaningful connection, and a whole lot of fun.

Travelers choose Switzerland in early October for vivid autumn scenery, thinner crowds, and more relaxed, value‑friendly travel than in peak summer.

Beautiful fall landscapes

  • Early October brings colorful foliage in the lower valleys around Zurich, Lucerne, and Interlaken while higher peaks remain snow‑capped, creating dramatic contrasts for photos and scenic rail journeys.
  • Lake regions and mountain viewpoints (like Pilatus, Titlis, and Jungfraujoch) feel crisp and atmospheric, with misty mornings and often very clear skies on good days.

Comfortable, quieter travel

  • Temperatures in cities like Zurich and Lucerne are cool but comfortable for walking tours and excursions, usually in the mid‑50s to low‑60s°F (around 13–17°C) during the day.
  • The main summer crowds have gone, so trains, boats, viewpoints, and old towns feel less congested, and there is often better availability and pricing on hotels and flights compared with peak season.

Rich cultural and rail experiences

  • Autumn is ideal for combining scenic train journeys with local culture—historic towns, museums, chocolate and cheese tastings, and lakeside promenades—without the heat or pressure of high season.
  • Mountain excursions still operate, giving access to high‑alpine experiences while you return each evening to cozy villages, lakeside cities, and lively but not overrun restaurants and cafes.

Most airlines typically allow one checked bag up to 50 pounds for a fee, plus one carry-on bag and a personal item such as a purse or briefcase—please verify current airline policies for exact rules and fees.

Due to limited vehicle storage, each member is permitted one checked suitcase (maximum combined dimensions of 62 inches) and one small carry-on bag. For daily excursions, especially when visiting alpine sites, a small daypack or backpack is recommended instead of a purse for comfort and practicality.

We suggest that you have a physical check-up before your trip, and discuss the type of trip in which you are participating with your physician. Many large cities have a travel clinic or health center with doctors and nurses that are experts in travel immunization.

  • There are no specific additional vaccines legally required for Switzerland for travelers arriving directly from the U.S., Canada, or most of Europe, other than any globally standard requirements that may be in force at the time of travel.

  • Health authorities typically recommend that travelers be current on routine immunizations such as tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, MMR, polio, and influenza, and some travelers may be advised to carry prescription medicines (e.g., for altitude, if appropriate) based on their medical history.

Visit WHO (World Health Organization) for more specific information.

Switzerland uses 230 volts and 50 Hz as its standard electrical current.

You will need the converter in addition to the adapter to STEP DOWN the electrical current rom 230 – 110 (US) or your appliance will melt.

Outlets are primarily Type J, and many also accept Type C two‑pin Europlugs, so most dual‑voltage travel electronics (like phone chargers and laptops) will work with an appropriate plug adapter.

Some devices are dual voltage and will be listed on the back of the appliance. When the voltage reading is listed as a range of numbers, like 110V–220V or 100-240V, the device can handle AC voltage outlets from all over the world. This is considered a “dual voltage” or “world-wide voltage” device.

If in doubt, protect your device.  It could cost you 10 x more to replace it and nothing is worth negatively impacting your vacation!

Travel insurance is not required for entry into Switzerland by U.S. citizens for short-term visits (less than 90 days). However, it is highly recommended since U.S. health insurance generally does not cover medical care abroad, and travel insurance provides important protection for medical emergencies including evacuation.

In addition to direct access immediately upon completing your purchase, you will receive a quote from Travel Guard regarding travel insurance after reserving your vacation.

When selecting a travel insurance policy, we recommend that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency evacuation and repatriation. We also strongly recommend that the policy cover personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.

If you have any questions, Travel Guard professional, expert agents are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call us, if you have not received your quote within 3 days, or CLICK HERE to go directly to Travel Guard and request a policy quote. It only takes a few minutes.

Questions and comments after you have reserved your vacation are addressed promptly when you send a message to us at service@singlestravelintl.com.

The official currency of Switzerland is the Swiss franc (CHF), divided into 100 centimes/rappe.

Using money in Switzerland

  • Cash is widely accepted, but Switzerland is very card‑friendly; credit and debit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are commonly used in hotels, shops, and restaurants.
  • ATMs are easy to find in cities and towns, and withdrawing CHF from a bank ATM usually gives a better rate than exchanging large amounts of cash at airport kiosks or hotels.

Exchange rates and practical tips

  • Exchange rates between CHF and USD/EUR fluctuate, so it is best to check a reliable financial or currency‑converter site close to your travel dates.

All countries you visit have laws restricting the purchase and export of certain items, including antiquities, national cultural property, and products made from protected or endangered species (such as ivory, rhino horn, tortoise shell, certain corals, and some feathers). The United States also prohibits or restricts the import of many of these same items, and travelers may face confiscation, fines, or other penalties for attempting to export or import prohibited goods.

Upon return to the United States, your baggage is subject to inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Duty‑free exemptions, including the value of goods you may bring back and the permitted quantities of alcohol and tobacco, are subject to change and may vary based on your travel itinerary and personal circumstances. If you plan to purchase souvenirs or high‑value items, retain all purchase receipts; however, CBP may question receipts that appear inconsistent with the apparent value of the goods.

Singles Travel International staff are not personal caregivers and cannot provide continuous physical assistance.

  • Many tourist businesses in Switzerland may accept euros in cash, but change is typically given in CHF and the conversion rate is usually less favorable than paying directly in francs with a card.

  • Many tourist businesses in Switzerland may accept euros in cash, but change is typically given in CHF and the conversion rate is usually less favorable than paying directly in francs with a card.

For the most up‑to‑date information on regulations, restricted items, and duty‑free allowances, consult the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection website before you travel. Click here to learn more.

  • Many tourist businesses in Switzerland may accept euros in cash, but change is typically given in CHF and the conversion rate is usually less favorable than paying directly in francs with a card.

For the most up‑to‑date information on regulations, restricted items, and duty‑free allowances, consult the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection website before you travel. Click here to learn more.
