Heart of Patagonia Plus Iguazu & Easter Island

Set sail from Ushuaia, Argentina, the capital of Tierra del Fuego, also known as the “End of the World!”  We’ll find ourselves enraptured by the beauty of the Chilean Fjords on this expedition-style adventure from Buenos Aires to Valparaíso.  Our journey includes national parks and UNESCO sites, an attempted a landing at legendary Cape Horn, and we’ll cruise to the striking glaciers of Garibaldi Fjord, visit isolated yet welcoming communities at Puerto Williams and Caleta Tortel, and explore bustling cities and charming villages.

We’ll discover breathtaking panoramic scenery and be welcomed by remote communities to learn how they live. We’ll witness some of Chile’s most impressive glaciers and traverse fabled waterways. At Puerto Natales, choose to visit the world-renowned Torres del Paine National Park, before we head to charming Castro and picturesque Niebla, and end our adventure in the vibrant hilltop city of Valparaíso.  All you have to do is show up and enjoy. Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, Argentina: We’ll transfer together from our hotel to the regional airport early this morning to make the most of our adventure. Our early flight departs for Ushuaia, Argentina, the End of the World!

Setting sail from Ushuaia
With its backdrop of snow-covered mountains, Ushuaia holds the proud, if often-disputed, title of the southernmost city in the world.

MS Roald Amundsen is waiting in port just for us. After picking up our expedition jacket and meeting our Expedition Team, we’ll settle in and explore the ship before enjoying the first of many delicious meals on board. Our singles only adventure is officially underway.

Cruise the Beagle Channel and round Cape Horn
Our adventure starts in earnest as we cruise through the Beagle Channel and sail down to the southernmost tip of South America – Cape Horn. The rocky walls of the channel plunge straight into the deep blue icy waters of this wild and remote seascape. Watch out for rare, endemic Peale’s dolphins and other wildlife here.

Cape Horn is where the open waters of the Atlantic and Pacific collide, creating powerful, swirling waves. Rounding the cape would once strike fear into the heart of hardened sailors, but with the benefit of modern instruments, we’ll attempt to land – an exploration milestone – and explore the cape … if the conditions cooperate.

Visit a remote paradise!
Soak up the peaceful atmosphere of Puerto Williams, another contender for the world’s southernmost city. Drop into the Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum. Here, we’ll find Indigenous Yaghan artifacts, maps, photographs and a traditional canoe. We’ll also see a replica of the bow of the Yelcho – the ship that rescued Shackleton’s men in 1916.

Hike through the gorgeous scenery, on your own or as part of a guided excursion. You may be able to kayak if the weather is nice. Keen birdwatchers should have their binoculars handy to spot seabirds, including the graceful albatross.

Witness some of Chile’s most impressive glaciers
The goal for the day is a scenic cruise in Garibaldi Fjord within Alberto de Agostini National Park. Here, the Andes tumble into the Pacific and great glaciers calve ice into the beautiful Chilean fjords.

Depending on the conditions, we’ll head for glaciers Garibaldi or Pia, some of the most impressive examples in Chile. The fjord is also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and its rich waters are home to seals, sea lions and many seabirds, including the Andean Condor.

2 Days Through the Magellan Strait & White Narrows
As we sail north along the Chilean coast, join the Expedition Team for fascinating lectures on topics like pre-Columbian history, the geology of our surroundings and the folklore of local communities.

Enjoy the serenity and beauty of the maze of fjords we pass, surrounded by islands, glaciers and steep mountains. And keep an eye out for elephant seals, dolphins and whales, who often swim alongside the ship.

Our resident photographer will be on hand to help us get the most from your wildlife and landscape photography.

Head out on deck to witness some of the most beautiful landscapes on the continent as your Captain skillfully navigates the ship through these famed channels.

Through the Magellan Strait & White Narrows
Today, according to the tide, we’ll sail through the White Narrows into Puerto Natales. At less than 330 feet wide in parts, this striking waterway between islets and sheer rock cliffs is only passable in slack water and daylight.

Gateway to Torres del Paine
Today we’ll awake in Puerto Natales, gateway to the Torres del Paine National Park. The rugged landscape features steppe, forest and desert, punctuated by glaciers and lakes. Choose to explore this spectacular region either on a panoramic bus tour or a hiking tour.

Andean animals such as guanacos, rheas and the elusive puma roam here. Look out for Chilean Flamingos as well as the mighty Andean Condor.

Puerto Natales is a popular hub for hikers and adventurers, with many eateries, bars and outdoor shops. Visit the artisan village at Etherh Aike or stroll along the photogenic waterfront.

2 Days to explore the soul-stirring Patagonian fjords!
According to the tide, we’ll leave Puerto Natales behind and head back through the fabled White Narrows. As we make our way through the maze of the Chilean Fjords, revel in the spine-tingling scenery and join the Expedition Team in the Science Centre.

The next day, tidal conditions allowing, we hope to visit Puerto Edén, an enchanting village only accessible by sea. The 250-strong community here are some of the last remaining members of the Indigenous Kawésqar people, offering a fascinating insight into Patagonian culture.

Alternatively, we’ll spend the day cruising the majestic fjords, drinking in the incredible scenery and spotting wildlife along the way. We may take the opportunity to launch our small expedition boats and explore even closer. Be ready for spontaneous adventures!

We continue off the well-trodden path to visit isolated Caleta Tortel. Lying at the mouth of Río Baker, Chile’s largest river, this charming village is home to just 500 inhabitants.

Instead of streets, a maze of boardwalks connects the close-knit community, spreading over water and around the mountain base. If conditions permit, you’ll be able to explore more of the milky blue waters here by kayak.

While exploring the village, we’ll come across locals selling handicrafts and you may even be treated to a performance by folk dancers.

Our expedition cruise continues north through the fabled waters of Patagonia. The seas here are captivating, with a whole palette of shades of blue, from the brightest aquamarine to the deepest midnight hues.

As we sail, there’s a good chance we’ll see whales, seabirds, seals and more. Take in the scenery from the panoramic sauna or on-deck hot tubs and infinity pool, enjoy the onboard cuisine, or relax in the Explorer Lounge & Bar.

Our Expedition Team will be on hand with fascinating lectures on local history and wildlife, and our onboard photographer is on hand to help with tips on expedition photography.

Set amidst the lush greenery of Chiloé Island, Castro is Chile’s third oldest city. It’s also home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Iglesia San Francisco and Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Nercón. The former is one of the oldest colonial era buildings in the country and has survived 15 major earthquakes.

Keep your camera ready for views of the city’s colourful palafitos – stilt houses along the waterfront. For an insight into local culture, head to the Museo Regional de Castro and Modern Art Museum.

The Fortress at Niebla
We go ashore at the pretty seaside town of Niebla, set on a picturesque peninsula with views of Corral Bay on one side and the Valdivia River on the other. Take a stroll on the wide sandy beach and, if the Feria Costumbrista market is open, sample traditional empanadas, anticuchos and churros.

Northbound Cruising with Wildlife Spotting

Disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight home from Santiago (SCL). We have included airport transfer from Valparaiso in your package and your Concierge will provide personal assistance.  Not ready to go home? Join our 5 Night/6 Day, Easter Island Adventure, April 10-15.  Add the option at check out!

From the moment you arrive at our pre Cruise hotel, our Singles Travel International Concierge is waiting to meet you at our Hospitality Desk or Welcome Event. Our first evening begins with a meet and greet and orientation.  We plan daily activities both onboard the ship as well as in each port. We dine together each evening in an open seating arrangement so that you have a chance to meet as many people as possible.

Our program for 50+ singles also includes an invitation to a private WhatsApp Group Chat where you may start meeting your fellow travelers and make new friends immediately.  In addition, we host a virtual Meet & Greet with your travel companions before you depart. You’ll receive automatic reminders via email and text for each event.  Be sure you opt in for all communications so that you don’t miss out on anything! Text YES to us at 833-479-1857 if you are not yet receiving our text message reminders.

Our vacations cater to singles in their 50s, 60s and 70s but you will often meet singles ranging anywhere from 45-75. We generally have a ratio of 60/40, women to men. As a travel club, matchmaking is not our focus. We offer an opportunity for single travelers to see the world in the company of other singles and do not guarantee ratios or ages.

We recommend that you meet the members of the Singles Travel International Community on the private WhatsApp Group Chat once you receive the invite from the Get Ready email after you make your reservation. This is the best way to find out exactly who will be on your vacation and to start making new friends.

Knowing who’s on the trip in advance makes socializing before and during your vacation easier and more fun.

The dining options on the MS Roald Amundsen in Patagonia are casual yet varied, featuring three main restaurants:

  • Aune: The largest main dining room, seating 240 guests, serves buffet-style breakfast and lunch, and a la carte dinner (buffet dinners on full expedition itineraries). It offers assigned seating for dinner with two sittings (6 pm and 8 pm) and first-come-first-served seating for other meals.
  • Fredheim: A casual café with an eclectic menu including comfort foods like burgers, quesadillas, spring rolls, and milkshakes. Guests can also order from Aune’s menu here, providing a relaxed alternative to the main dining room.
  • Lindstrøm: The premium fine dining restaurant named after Roald Amundsen’s personal chef, available at no extra cost for suite guests and for an additional fee for others. It offers Norwegian-inspired cuisine with plans to incorporate regional dishes from Patagonia and Chile, emphasizing sustainable sourcing of local ingredients like Chilean seafood and Patagonian lamb.

There is no traditional room service, but Fredheim offers a to-go option for meals. Snacks are limited to cookies, coffee, and tea available throughout the day in common areas. Overall, the food quality is highly praised, with a diverse menu that never repeats dishes on longer voyages, reflecting local flavors and international dishes in a casual expedition atmosphere.

Dietary requirements – most dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and diabetic will be catered for and there will also be gluten-free options. Please make clear any special requests at the time of booking so that Singles Travel International is able to verify your options well in advance.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every cruise sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. Since 1993, we have been perfecting the singles vacation experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every cruise sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. Since 1993, we have been perfecting the singles vacation experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day.

Of course not. You will be pleased to find out that nearly 90% of our guests on every cruise sign up and have never met anyone before joining the group. Since 1993, we have been perfecting the singles vacation experience. It is paramount that our guests meet each other right away and have opportunities to mingle every day.
