NCL Studios & Singles Travel. The Perfect Match
New Year’s Eve Escape…St. Thomas, Tortola, and Nassau. Who doesn’t want to escape to the Caribbean over the Holidays, right? Although I’ve cruised this itinerary before, it’s always just as exciting as the first because I’m traveling with different members of the Single Travel International community and the NCL Escape is such an amazing ship.
Usually I blog about our adventures and the group overall, but this time I overheard a few of our passengers talking about how much they enjoyed the Single Studio Cabins. I realized that although many have cruised before, it’s been on different ships or cruise lines altogether. The NCL Single Studio cabin with the Studio Lounge is a new encounter to many, so I wanted to discuss this aspect of our trips for those that haven’t experienced them – yet! We turn the studio cabin area of the ship into our own pajama party.
It’s like renting a floating house with 100 rooms.
Unfortunately, single studio cabins aren’t available on all Norwegian ships, but are available on the following:
- Breakaway
- Epic
- Escape
- Getaway
- Pride of America –only four Studios available on the whole ship
Fortunately, Singles Travel International has you covered. Upcoming in 2017, we offer sailings on four of the five ships – Escape, Epic, Getaway and Pride of America. For the official description of the Single Studio Cabin, I went to the Norwegian website directly:
“Our award-winning Studios are the first accommodations specifically designed and priced for solo travelers. Running up to 100 sq. feet,* they are an industry first, giving solo cruisers the most affordable and stylish way to cruise. As a Studio guest, you will have exclusive key card access to the Studio Complex and Lounge. This shared private area is where you can stretch out, have a drink, order room service, watch the big-screen TV and meet your neighbors. Come on board and find your home away from home- at sea.”
Exclusive Amenities
- Private keycard access to a Studio stateroom and the Studio Lounge—a private lounge shared only by Studio guests
- The Studio Lounge is the perfect space to spread out, have a drink, enjoy a book, watch TV and meet your neighbors
- Complimentary coffee, espresso and snacks available throughout the day in the Studio Lounge
- Room Service menu offering delicious options for breakfast, lunch and dinner
- TV, safe and hair dryer
Cool, huh?
It’s a compact but an efficient use of space. For a solo traveler it has all that you need – a bathroom, shower, and a place to lay your head when you need to escape.
The design is a bit futuristic with color changing LED lighting. I will admit that the lighting is probably the trickiest to figure out at first. You need your keycard inserted into the slot by the door to access power to the cabin – lights, TV and electrical outlets. Once you remove your keycard, it truly is lights out!
The shower stall sits in one corner with a small vanity area and an enclosed bathroom is just across. There are two closets with sliding doors and cubbie holes for storage. Even the women who travel with STI in the studio say there is plenty of storage for everything they bring.
The biggest bonus is the Studio Lounge – a communal area that allows you to just chill out or chat with other solo travelers. There are times that I’ve stopped to join some of our group and chat over a latte or cappuccino. COMPLIMENTARY espresso, coffee, tea, orange juice and snacks. The studio area is private and the cabin/lounge area is accessible to those booked within. Of course, when you travel with Singles Travel International, you are with a group of fun singles your age and never have to worry about finding singles to socialize with on a huge cruise ship. Our daily events, theme parties and singles only excursions in the ports keep you surrounded by single travelers throughout your vacation.
Now I completely understand that the studio cabins aren’t for everyone. There are some cruisers that require a balcony: Your own little space to escape to read or listen to the sound of the waves while you sleep. This is perfectly understandable and why it’s so great to have options. If you want to save money and still have your own cabin, give the studio a chance.
Whatever cabin, on whatever cruise you decide to book, we look forward to having you with us to share in the fun.
Grab a studio and join us in 2017 or 2018:
