Grande Atlantic Crossing Luxury Singles Cruise

An Atlantic Crossing Cruise has quite a history. Originally being only transportation, it has evolved into quite a luxury experience as we enjoyed on our Grande Atlantic Crossing Singles Cruise! Members were pampered each day aboard the Regent Seven Seas Mariner.

First, a little background…

The first steamship to cross the Atlantic was the SS Savannah in 1819. The SS Great Western, built in 1838, was the first purpose-built transatlantic steamship. Steamships made transatlantic crossings faster, safer, and more reliable. It was during this time that the four funnels were established to represent power and safety. Many ships took on the popular four-funnel feature, even if it meant adding a fake funnel to a three-funnel ship!

The 1950s were a time of great popularity for transatlantic cruises, known as the Golden Age of cruising. These cruises became prestigious social events, with celebrities like Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and Elizabeth Taylor on board.

The 1980s were dominated by Queen Elizabeth 2. The iconic ship became immortalized in a new studio album by composer Mike Oldfield. Her classic V-Shaped Lines cut through “The Pond” well and set the precedence for a glorious journey.

So here we are in 2024. Still enjoying the revelry of crossing by sea.
