Exotics Defined

What is your definition of Exotic? The dictionary defines exotic as an adjective used to describe something originating in a distant foreign country or “of a kind not used for ordinary purposes or not ordinarily encountered.” Not conventional. This is where the word takes a turn in the travel industry — toward destinations off the beaten path. Locales at the four corners (or curves) of the earth that few have the privilege of seeing in their short lifetimes. The unique places that call to us in photographs, sounds and stories.

As travel professionals, it’s our job to unravel the tucked away gems that are the envy of baby boomer single travelers and encourage you to discover them one by one. Here are five unconventional destinations we recommend you get to sooner rather than later.

2. Cuba –forbidden– Get there before the crowds. Environmentally to politically to culturally, Cuba is poised for an explosion of change in the next two years. This vibrant country has been held down long enough and is ready to share its music, culture and beautiful beaches with the United States.

3. The Galapagos Islands – evolution – In many ways, Galápagos is much the same as when Darwin first set foot in the archipelago, back in 1835. This remote archipelago is a land of stark lava formations, cactus forests, lush green highlands, turquoise bays and quintessential tropical beaches. But, best of all, it is overflowing with wildlife at every turn. Only a set number of visitors are allowed each year and rumor has it this number is set to decrease.

4. ASIA— A big continent to tackle, so take small bites

Thailand – travel bans – Known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha, the ‘Land of Smiles’ is expecting to welcome a record 37.5 million travelers in 2018, according to data revealed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
